UWM Peck School of the Arts announces upcoming events and workshops. 

Featured Events:

Just released! Doc|UWM presents their first Cream City Soundcheck video. Watch as the New Orleans band Generationals rolls into Milwaukee, and a crew of doc|UWM students takes the band on a whirlwind tour of the town before documenting the band's performance at Turner Hall.

Fri, Nov 18 - Sat, Dec 10 - Fall MA/MFA Exhibition I, Opening reception on 11/18 from 5-7pm; Gallery Talk on 11/22 from 4-6pm, Inova/Arts Center Gallery. An exhibition showcasing the work of Peck School Art & Design graduate students Aneesha Baldeosingh, Skrauss and Joseph Weber. The event is Free.

Mon, Nov 21 - The Object Jewelry Sale, 9am-8pm, UWM Union Concourse
Students from the Jewelry and Metalsmithing area in the Visual Art Department will present at least 500 pieces of jewelry that are unique and sometimes outrageous in design but will all address the idea of value, preciousness, or "cheapness." All the work will be available for sale in order to assist Object, a student-run metals organization, in support of their efforts to bring in lectures and purchase new studio equipment. The event is Free.

Wed, Nov 16 - Meet Raphael Xavier, 1pm, Mitchell 254
Raphael Xavier, co-founder and choreographer of Olive Dance Theatre in Philadelphia PA, will speak about his choreographic and personal history in the dance world. Raphael is also choreographing on the Ko-Thi Dance Company for their April 2012 show Words from the Sole.The event is Free.

Wed, Nov 16 - Artists Now! Martha Glowacki: Private Science, 7pm, Arts Center Lecture Hall - ACL 120
Glowacki will talk about directions in her current studio practice and how she develops ideas for work. She'll show some examples of source material from the history of natural science, collecting, and museums as part of the talk. The event is Free.

Wed, Nov 16 - Film: Locally Grown, The Nohl Fellows: Program Two, 7pm, UWM Union Theatre
Featuring current Nohl Fellow Brent Coughenour's Mysterium Cosmographicum, a three-part series that draws from "The Collective Unconscious [i.e. the Internet]." The works utilize custom computer software and augmented video game controllers in the creation of a live audio/visual performance. The event is Free.

Thurs, Nov 17 - Music From Almost Yesterday Student Ensemble, 7:30pm, Recital Hall
New instrumental, vocal, and electroacoustic works by UWM Music Composition and Technology students. The event is Free.

Sat, Nov 19 - Piano Studio Recital, 7:30pm, Recital Hall
Piano recital performed by piano students from the UWM Music Dept. The event is Free.

Sun, Nov 20 - UWM Honors Band Festival Concerts, 1-6:30pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
As a culmination of the UWM Honors Band Festival, Middle School and High School Honors Bands and the UWM Wind Ensembles perform in a series of concerts. Tickets are $10 general/$8 seniors, UWM faculty, staff, alumni and non-UWM students. Buy ticket for one concert, receive ticket for second concert for $6. FREE for UWM students with I.D.

Tues, Nov 22 - UWM Guitar Program Student Recital: Classical and Flamenco Guitar Solos, 7:30pm, Recital Hall. The event is Free

Workshops & Continuing Education:

Fridays, Through Dec 2 - Friday Night Open Figure Drawing 7-10pm, Mitchell Hall 312 and 322, please note room change! Draw the nude male or female figure from a variety of poses! Poses range from 1 minute to 25 minutes long. Non-instructional session. Open to artists of all skill levels. Bring your own supplies. Drawing horses are available. The workshop costs $8 per single session; $30/5 sessions; $50/10 sessions; $80/20 sessions.

Fri, Nov 18 - MAM After Dark - Movement and New Media Collaborations Showing, 8-10pm, Milwakee Art Museum
Presenting projects that combine the efforts of Peck School of the Arts dancers, filmmakers and digital artists. Expect to see a diverse display of artistic viewpoints from abstracted forms that create light and shadows, personal stories of loss and memory, commentary on freedom and contemporary culture, women in the military, a fractured family reassembled and the immediacy of technology and loss of contact. Contact the Milwaukee Art Museum for tickets.

Sat, Nov 19 - Ko Thi: Discover the Magic Within, 7:30pm, Mainstage Theatre VIP seats Tickets are $75/general $15/$seniors and students $10.

Sun, Nov 20 - Present Music: Thanksgiving, 4pm, Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 812 N. Jackson Street, Milwaukee Present Music will revive Henry Brant's Wind, Water, Clouds & Fire, a piece it commissioned and premiered in 2004. The piece features over 100 musicians and singers. Performance will include Peck School of the Arts Music faculty Sharon Hansen, Bonnie Scholz, Ann Lobotzke and Kevin Hartman. Contact Present Music for tickets

Sun, Nov 20 - The Object Jewelry Preview Sale, 5-8pm, The Blatz Condominiums, 270 E. Highland Ave, Milwaukee Preview sale of work from Jewelry and Metalsmithing students at the Peck School of the Arts. Proceeds from sales will support the student organization Object in their goal to bring in lectures to UWM and purchase new studio equipment. The event is Free.

Through Sun, Nov 20 - UWM Art and Design Faculty Exhibition, Opening reception 1-4pm, 10/16, Cedarburg Cultural Center. An exhibition of work from UW-Milwaukee Peck School Art & Design faculty. The event is Free.

Through Sat, Dec 3 - The Importance of Being Earnest, Boulevard Theatre, 2252 South Kinnickinnic, Milwaukee
This modern dress interpretation of the Oscar Wilde classic features Peck School alums Megan Kaminsky and David Matthew Bohn. Contact Boulevard Theatre for tickets.

Through Sat, Dec 31 - Current Tendencies II Artists from Milwaukee, Haggerty Museum of Art
An exhibition featuring ten Milwaukee artists working in a variety of media, including work from Art & Design faculty Nathaniel Stern and Jessica Meuninck-Ganger.The event is Free.
