Renaissance Theaterworks (RTW) the only women-founded, women-run theater company in the Milwaukee community celebrates its 20th season tonight, September 13th, at 7pm.
Since 1993, RTW has provided work to more than 500 theater artists and technicians; over 70 percent of these were women. Sixty percent of the plays produced have been written by women; 82 percent were directed by women. In addition, they have given first-time opportunities to more than 50 local female artists in the areas of directing, stage managing, lighting, set design and acting.
The RTW Women know thanks are due to those who have been a participant on this journey. In addition, Co-Founders Marie Kohler, Suzan Fete and Jennifer Rupp have experienced and shared many personal milestones over the company’s twenty years of history. “I am the luckiest woman,” says Suzan Fete. “I get to do work I love with my best friends. Amazing! I was pregnant with my son, when we started Renaissance and this year he leaves for college."
These women radiate pride, friendship and appreciation for their work, each other and the performing arts community that has grown around them from twenty years of doing what they are most passionate about. Jennifer Rupp expresses pride in “the company and the work culture our staff has created.” Marie Kohler feels “so lucky to be in the company of close friends and trusted colleagues. It’s been a fun-filled ride producing plays that would not have been, had it not been for Renaissance."
The birthday party is open to members of the Milwaukee theater industry and its supporters. The party, tonight, September 13th, will take place from 7:00pm – midnight at ComedySportz, 420 S. 1st Street, Milwaukee.
