Milwaukee Chamber Theatre to Stage Radio Adaptation of The LONELY ROAD, ROCKET FROM MANHATTAN, 4/22

Wisconsin Public Radio has teamed with the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre to stage a radio adaptation of "The Lonely Road" and "Rocket from Manhattan" on Sunday, April 22 at 8:00 p.m. in the Cabot Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center. "The Lonely Road" tells the story of a husband and wife caught in a femme fatale murder plot surrounding a house maid in this classic episode from the "Suspense" program series. Arch Oboler's "Rocket from Manhattan" is a sci-fi thriller and cautionary tale for the atomic age. Both productions will be introduced by WPR host Norman Gilliland and directed by Lawrence University theatre professor Timothy X. Troy. The cast includes Gilliland, Troy, Bill Finn, David Flores, Marcella Kearns, April Paul, and Lawrence University students Josh Kowitz and Erik Morrison.

"Rocket From Manhattan is a remarkably prescient play when one considers that it explores the grim possibilities of the Nuclear Age only six weeks after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki," said Troy.

Troy and Gilliland have collaborated on other Old Time Radio projects, including Eric Simonson's 2006 Oscar Award winning documentary "A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin," and an episode of Wisconsin Public Radio's University of the Air also on Norman Corwin.

"This is a chance for folks to travel back through time and experience the golden age of radio when millions of Americans tuned in to comedy, drama, variety and adventure every night," noted Old Time Radio Drama host, Norman Gilliland.

While audiences listening at home will enjoy the performance, including live music and sound effects, members of the audience will be treated to some surprises. The performance will be broadcast live, statewide, at 8:30 p.m. on WPR's Ideas Network Stations.

The gypsy swing combo group "Last Gaspe" will play during the preshow starting at 8:00 p.m. After the show, join the after-party at the upstairs Bar & Bistro, where guests can meet the cast and staff with refreshments available from the cash bar.
